You may have heard, there's a virus going around. And since our ministry is based around the premise of bringing people together and promoting community, social distancing has posed a bit of a challenge to our model. In order to do our part to protect our community and volunteers alike, we had to make the difficult decision to cancel all teams through December 2020. (See previous blog post for details.)
Unfortunately, the same needs exist in the colonias that existed before coronavirus. Part of our solution to overcome this challenge as a ministry and continue meeting the needs of families awaiting a house is to raise funds for our local staff to complete the builds. This also allows for continued employment of our staff. You may have seen that some groups have generously chosen to donate funds for an entire house, but we understand that's not an option for everyone.
For those of you who want to help meet the need but aren't able to fund an entire house, we are creating a special crowdfunding process! We will be featuring one family at a time who is waiting to receive the gift of a home. Please understand that in order to respect the privacy of each family, we will be limiting the information we share about them publicly, but we will gladly send a copy of the official family story at the request of individual donors. Just email our team coordinator, Toni Chalmers, at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will also provide updates on our Facebook page, including video of the home dedication (hopefully via Facebook Live, dependent on cell service in the particular area).
