President of the Board

Physician Risk Manager, Risk Management. Member of the board since 2002.
“The Varnell family first traveled to Juarez with Missions Ministries in March of 1994 with several other families. We were so impacted by the faith and graciousness of the Mexican people in the colonias that we decided to make the ministry our primary mission focus going forward. We have since been back to Juarez in various capacities many times, both to build houses as well as work in the medical clinic. What we most look forward to each year is the renewal of friendships we have made over the years in Juarez, and to see the progress of the ministry within the community due to continual presence and God's grace.
I have been a Board member of Missions Ministries since 2002, with the primary goal of ensuring that the clinic has adequate supplies and resources for the teams to treat patients when they come down. Our family continues to be blessed by this ministry more than we could ever hope to be a blessing for those we serve.”

“My husband Sam and I have been on many mission trips but our first to Juarez was in 2005 on a women's and children's medical team. Sam and I were blessed beyond measure by the Mexican people there. They have absolute and complete faith in the power of God in the midst of their extreme poverty. We heard numerous times how they pray for US! Shouldn't it be the other way around? We were so very humbled by the experience. It is an honor to serve Missions Ministries and the people of Juarez. I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to do so.”

“Little did I know that one of my life passions would be revealed to me in June of 2010. My husband John and I were planning to go back to Biloxi, Mississippi to help with a Christian sports camp. This seemed like a natural fit for me where I could be Jesus in a t-shirt and tennis shoes. Turns out this trip was cancelled and God had other plans for us. We found ourselves heading down to the colonias of Juarez with Missions Ministries. The trip was awesome and the people in the colonias were so welcoming and loving. I still remember the first house dedication. To see this young single mom with her new house that would now provide shelter and safety for her and her daughter and then to see her react to the invitation of Jesus in her life was something that I’ll never forget and never grow tired of seeing. My plan of being Jesus in a t-shirt and tennis shoes turned into being Jesus with a tool belt and hammer!! Missions Ministries provides an amazing opportunity to be used by God. I feel very blessed to be a part of it. I joined the board to help Missions Ministries grow so others can share in the great things that God is doing in the colonias of Juarez.”

“My wife, Jacque, and daughters, Marin (7) and Reagan (4,) have been extremely blessed by the time we have spent in Juarez. In 2008, our Sunday School class went on a short-term missions trip to build two houses and to staff a medical clinic. We have been going every since then. Our lives have been transformed in such a dramatic way. We now travel to Juarez at least four times a year and would go more if time would allow. We have built lasting relationships with families that we have built for, pastors in the colonias, and the Mission's Ministries staff living in Mexico. If you are looking for an opportunity to serve God, serve His people, and spread His Love, please come on a trip with us! Make a difference in His Kingdom.”

John's first house build was the summer of 2009 at Cherry Hills Community Church.
“I heard at one of the church services that the men's Bible study group needed volunteers to build a house that would then be shipped from Denver to a family in Mexico. Something led me to get involved, so I went to the build with an open mind. During this house build, I witnessed several men who were passionate about their families, the family they were building this home for, and for God. I was intrigued by how this ministry was impacting them so positively.
I went on my first international build with MM in December 2009 and was not quite sure what to expect. What I witnessed was amazing! We were able to help two families during an unusual snow storm in Juarez that weekend that were so grateful for answered prayers for a warm new home. What I found was the people in the colonies helped me experience how God can work through all of us. Since that first trip, I have been involved in most of "Raising of the Walls" builds in the Denver area, and I find each one of them as rewarding as the one I built in the snow in Mexico. I have really enjoyed being a part of this ministry and feel blessed to have found this organization. ”
